A London newspaper recently reported:
| Tony Cornell, of the
Society for Psychical Research, told the London based Sunday Express
newspaper that reports of ghost sightings have decline. According to
Cornell, from Cambridge area, ghost sightings remained fairly consistent for
centuries until recently.
So what is causing the drop off in ghost sightings in Britain? Cornell points the finger of blame to a common and popular item of modern technology: the cell phone. He shared that after the mobile phone unit's introduction -and subsequent popularity - the reporting of sightings has steadily declined over the past 15 years. Three years ago, during a week's time frame, around two new ghost sightings would be reported. Currently, it is not uncommon for a week to go by without one reporting or sighting shared. Apparently he does not feel this is a coincidence. The problem is two-fold. Yes, this is good news for the people who fear a negative entity. Sign up for a decent cell phone calling plan and you will be entity free. However I doubt that the cell phone companies will adopt that as a promotional spiel. On the other hand, according to the calculations, it is felt that many haunted tourist attractions could be under threat. Especially if the number of cellphones continues to grow from the current estimate of 39 million cell phones in use in Britain. So how are cell phones reportedly nullifying the ghostly activity? According to the Reuters article, "Apparently paranormal events, which some scientists put down to unusual electrical activity, could be drowned out by the electronic noise produced by phone calls and text messages." |
